15 July 2025, Kienberg/Gaming, Austria – On July 14, 2025, Hexagon Composites announced its plans to fully acquire the alternative fuels business of SES. This business was part of the Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) joint venture established in May of last year and includes the sites in Slupsk, Poland, and Burscheid, Germany. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of the 2025 calendar year.
With Hexagon Composites, a well-established industry player, is taking over the hydrogen and CNG activities, creating a strong foundation for the continued development of these business segments. Worthington Cylinders GmbH in Kienberg thanks all involved teams for their contributions over the past years and looks forward with confidence to the future development of both organizations.
Worthington Cylinders GmbH in Kienberg
For more than two centuries, we have been manufacturing steel cylinders for high-pressure gas storage at our Kienberg site. Every year, we process around 27,000 tons of steel – the equivalent of 2.5 Eiffel Towers.
This spin-off has no impact on our steel cylinder plant in Kienberg. Worthington Cylinders GmbH remains jointly owned (49% Worthington Enterprises, 49% Hexagon Composites ASA, and 2% by the management team in Kienberg).
Through this strategic realignment, we are now able to sharpen our focus and consolidate our strengths – positioning ourselves more strongly in the market for compressed high-pressure gases.
